What Does the Hospice Care Benefit Include?
Hospice physicians collaborate with each person’s regular physician.
Registered nurse case managers care for patients during routine visits and manage the patient’s individualized plan of care.
On-call nursing is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Hospice care aides conduct scheduled visits and assist with personal care.
Medical social workers provide assistance with resources, emotional support, and a variety of other needs.
Chaplains provide spiritual counseling and support.
Medications, supplies, and equipment related to the terminal illness are provided.
Respite care is available as a relief for caregiver exhaustion. Short-term respite stays occur in the long-term care facility setting.
Bereavement services support the family after the loved one has passed.
Trained volunteers are also available for additional companionship and support.
Special services related to comfort care are available if appropriate from a physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, and a dietary counselor.
