Program Description: The Red Hook Senior Center serves all seniors (60 years of age and older) as well as disabled individuals.á Their bilingual staff (English/Spanish) provides case assistance, information on benefits and entitlements in: Medicaid-Medicare and Medicare Part D, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Social Security (SSA), Medical Insurance Counseling, Food Stamps, Senior Housing Issues, Senior Citizens Rent Increase Exemption Program (SCRIE), Disabled Rent Increase Exemption (DRIE), Home Owners Tax Abatement Programs, and Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP). Regularly scheduled guest speakers visit Red Hook Senior Center to share and present the members with new and updated information concerning Health Care, Elder Abuse, Crime Prevention, Sanitation, Fire Safety, and many other relevant issues of today.
Services provided include: Hot Congregate Breakfast and Lunch Meals, Intergenerational Reading Program (P.S.15), Recreational Activities (Bingo, Cards, Billiards, Dominoes, and Afternoon Movies), Trips (to Atlantic City, Empire City, Resorts World, Monticello, Flea Market, Bowling, and Museums), Health and Nutrition Education, Dance Classes, Exercise Sessions, ôKeep Your Mind Alertö Classes, a Walking Club, Food and Nutrition Program (FAN Food), RAICES Grandparent Kin Care Program, Birthday Celebrations, Cultural and Special Event Celebrations, Arts & Crafts and Sewing, Gardening, and Healthy & Secure Computer Classes.
